Hello all,

It’s a new privilege for me to write to you in Co-operatively Speaking.

I want to first acknowledge Stephen Nash’s leadership in the modernisation of CEHL, the co-op housing program and embedding a positive workplace culture. Stephen also played a major role in connecting CEHL with the broader Community Housing sector with whom we work closely with for greater collective benefit. His work over eight years made CEHL a stronger and more robust organisation.

We are now looking forward to the next phase in CEHL’s development with a new Managing Director, whose appointment we anticipate in the coming month or so. Until then it’s my honour to continue to act in the role.

Working through a pandemic

The whole team at CEHL appreciates all the work co-ops and your members do each day, managing your many responsibilities through the challenges of lockdowns. We appreciate your patience and understanding as employees too are managing competing demands, with many also juggling working while undertaking home schooling.

Strategic Plan Implementation

Planning is underway within CEHL on the steps needed to achieve the new Strategic Plan goals and objectives. Each co-op will receive the Strategic Plan along with the Annual Report in late October.

Co-op growth

Refurbishment works at Lakewood are well underway and the co-op is set to grow. Current Lakewood members are energised at the prospect of getting back ‘home’ and growing their co-op. We have also seen keen interest across the Program for people looking to downsize.

There are a number of re-development works underway, as much as lockdowns have allowed. We will outline these projects in the Annual Report which will be published in late October.

New office + postal address

Many of you may already know that the office in Richmond has been sold. I’m pleased to let you know that the Board approved the purchase of a new office in Carlton. While we have transitioned very effectively to working remotely, many of us look forward to re-establishing the comradery and connectedness that you get when sharing a workplace.

If you need to post us anything, can you please note that our new mailing address is:
Common Equity Housing Ltd, PO Box 504, Carlton Vic 3053
