Announcing Liz Thomas as CEHL Managing Director

The CEHL Board of Directors are delighted to announce the appointment of Liz Thomas as our new Managing Director.  Liz will commence on Wednesday 3 November 2021.

As we embark our new strategic plan, there is no better person to lead CEHL than Liz, with a track record of driving transformation and managing change by bringing people together.

To ensure our new MD quickly builds a deep understanding of member perspectives of our Program the Board have entrusted the Co-op Program Committee to engage with Program members, to gather their feedback and develop a briefing as part of the induction for our new Managing Director.

Liz Thomas career highlights:

  • She was the first female Public Trustee of Tasmania and for many years ran her own consultancy business which delivered services to the for-purpose sector.
  • Until recently, Liz was the CEO of Wayss, the largest provider of housing and family violence services in the Melbourne South East region. Driving the transformation of the organisation to be recognised as a leading housing service provider, with an engaged workforce geared to respond to the client voice and united by values of kindness, compassion and respect.
  • Liz developed the first Common Ground social housing project in Tasmania, to offer permanent inner-city rental housing to more than 100 people in need of affordable housing. She was also Deputy Chair of the Australian Common Ground Alliance, later the Australian Coalition for Ending Homelessness.
  • She worked with KPMG and project managed the development of a $25m green field aged care project, the first residential dementia village in Australia.

The combination of Liz’s skills, experience and demonstrated commitment to stakeholders makes her an ideal fit for CEHL and our next stage of growth and partnership with co-ops.

Under Liz’s leadership, CEHL will continue to move forward in partnership with member co-ops to deliver an effective, sustainable and member-led co-operative housing program.

On behalf of CEHL, I congratulate Liz on appointment as CEHL’s Managing Director and invite all members to welcome her as we take this next step in our journey together.
