Co-operation among cooperatives

CEHL’s screening of A Silent Transformation at Cinema Nova on Thursday 14 June was a resounding success, over seventy people enjoyed the film and discussion that followed.

A discussion panel made up of dedicated co-op members and advocates from Melbourne and regional Victoria included; Heidi Lee, of Earth Common Equity Rental Housing Co-operative as well as CEHL Deputy Chair, Carolyn Suggate founder and Director of ORICoop Organic Investment Cooperative, who are focused on investing in organic and sustainable farming, and Dan Musil Secretary of Earthworker, a worker-owned cooperative transforming the Latrobe Valley into a renewable energy and sustainable community.

The panel discussion echoed the films call to action to encourage more co-operation among co-ops to transform our communities in the highly corporatized and global economy we live in.

The night was presided by Antony McMullen, CEHL Co-op Development Coordinator, co-op guru and advocate for entrepreneurial cooperatives.

Anton Smolski, one of the filmmakers, shared his experience in making the film and the hopes for what the film's audience would take away from watching it with Antony McMullen.
