Demand for accessible and affordable housing is high, ensuring homes are tenanted is a priority of CEHL and co-ops.  Common Equity Rental Housing Co-ops (CERC) can now register vacancies by emailing vacancy@cehl.com.au

Please remember that registering your vacancy quickly and working with your Co-op Development Coordinator, is the best way to minimise turnaround times and promptly house new members.

Co-ops will be asked to confirm the following:

  1. When the property became vacant
  2. When the maintenance was completed
  3. When the new member moved in

Tips on how to minimise turnaround times and quickly house a new member:

  • Start early, as soon as a member has given you 28 days’ notice of intention to vacate, register the vacancy with CEHL by emailing vacancy@cehl.com.au
  • Conduct a pre-vacate inspection to identify maintenance requirements and complete an exit condition report
  • Conduct Member Selection interviews and complete maintenance simultaneously (refer to best practice advice)
  • Your Co-op Development Coordinator will be in contact to assist and answer any of your questions

Please be aware that there are changes to the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), effective 29 March 2021. These changes will require some new processes for managing vacancies in order to be compliant.

Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) is overseeing the implementation of these new laws. Co-ops can subscribe to receive updates on changes to renting laws

For more information

Call your Co-op Development Coordinator, who will be able to discuss the vacancy process and provide your co-op with further training and assistance where required.
